We offer our customers this guide to help you choose and plan you gutter installation. If you are unsure then please call or email us. Remember you can choose either White, Black or Brown in Square or Half Round - Later we plan to introduce Ogee and Deep Flow

Planning

1. Plan your installation using the component pages on this site or our catalogue. You may find it easier to create a sketch with sizes of your intend project. Mark all your outlets, corners, down pipes and bends on your sketch so when you come to choose, you can work around your sketch and tick off the items as you order them. If you find you need the same item in more than one place, do not worry if you add the same item twice in our online shopping site our system will automatically add the extra items to the item already in your shopping basket.

Calculating your brackets and clips

Fascia brackets should be spaced no more than 1000mm (3' 3")  apart on straight Gutter runs on square and round guttering. You can put these closer if you require.

Stop Ends, Stop End Outlets, Gutter Angles should have a fascia bracket within 150mm (6") of the fitting. On Downpipes a supporting pipe clip should be used with offset bends (swan necks) "Y" Branches and Outlet Shoes to prevent the down pipe from slipping. Fix these at a maximum 1500mm (4' 11").

2. If you intend to replace or cover your old timber fascias with UPV-C fascias and soffits it should be done be fore fitting the Guttering. Our Gutter systems are manufactured by one of the UK's leading gutter manufacturers

3. When you have all you items lay them out and ensure you are familiar with the each item. Start by locating the running outlets above drains or the intended area where the down pipes are to be fitted remember all the rain water will come through this section and as such it needs to be as the lowest point a fall of 1:600 is recommended.

4. Calculate where your stopend (opposite end to the outlet or if you are having an outlet at both ends then the centre of the run) is going to be then fit you first Support bracket at about 100mm (4") from here. Then fix your first Running or Stopend Outlet, remember to set the outlet lower than the stopend to ensure the rainwater runs down towards the outlet. When you have fixed you Running or Stop End Outlet, using more than one screw,  Fix a fascia bracket within 150mm (6"). We recommend that you use our stainless steel screws, this will avoid any brown staining when normal screws start to rust, remember galvanised screws will rust when used as the action of screwing them in removes the plating from the head. Take care not to over tighten the screw and crack the bracket and ensure it is level.

5. When you are ready fix a string line securely to both brackets (over large distances you will need to support any sagging in the line. Then follow this line fixing your gutter support brackets at a maximum of 1000mm (3' 3"). Take care that the line does not sage or you will end up with water pooling if you fix a bracket to low. If you live in an area of heavy snow fall or ice then you may wish to fix your bracket closer together.

6. When you are happy that you have a nice line with a reasonable fall you can start to install you gutter. We recommend that you spray all rubber gaskets with silicon spray before assembly as this will help prevent damage to the seal causing leakage and make your job easier. Some people advise the use of washing up liquid - NEVER USE IT - Washing up liquid contains salt and within 12-18 months your gasket will start to perish as the salt actually gets trapped in the seal and is not washed of by rain.

When you come to install the downpipe simply draw a plumb line down the host wall, mark where you intend to install your clips then start at the bottom. and work up to your outlet.

Notes

Start fitting at the outlet by inserting the back edge first up under the retaining clip then push down ward until the front clip fits tightly into place.

Fit your gutter up to any marks indicated in the outlets or joints this allows adequate room for the gutter to expand and contract.

Ensure the back clip has remained in position and double check the gutter  is in the marked position .allowing for expansion and contraction.

If you are using more than one length of gutter in a run then add the Joint or union, and repeat the process until all fittings are in place.

Do not forget to add your stopends
